The Atlantic coast in Uruguay brings together the most popular tourist areas in the country. There you will find places that overflow with glamour, such as Punta del Este and José Ignacio and others where nature is the protagonist, such as Cabo Polonio. However, along the coast there are also a wide range of destinations, some of them family orientated (Solís, Piriápolis, for example) and others which are spaces for young people (Punta del Diablo, La Pedrera, for example).

Even though the beach is the main attraction of the eastern region, the truth is that this area also has a large number of rural destinations. Pueblo Edén and Pueblo Garzón are two places that are becoming more popular, although without losing their peaceful style. Rocha, for its part, has San Miguel Park, where a hilly and rural landscape mix with the traditions of the area. Here there are museums that show the culture of the country life.

In Maldonado and Rocha there are as many natural attractions as beaches. You can enjoy exotic places, such as the Valizas dunes or the long walk to Verde hill inside the Santa Teresa National Park. In addition, there are perfect outings to take by car (the palm trees in Rocha, for example) or to spend the afternoon enjoying watersports (Garzón Lake). There is also the opportunity for adventure in interesting boat trips (Lobos island) and places perfect for trekking (Sierra de las Ánimas).

Days at the beach also provide time to do other activities. For example, in Piriápolis you can enjoy an interesting historical tour linked to the founder of the resort, Francisco Piria. Punta del Este, for its part, has interesting commercial activity, with shopping malls and open air shopping galleries. Rocha, in turn, is characterized by its artisans who offer their works of art made from metal, wood and seashells in each one of its resorts, as well as liquors and homemade jams.
